Course Description and Requirements
 

A pre-vehicle use impairing substance screening will be required for all students at no extra cost. All the necessary paperwork will be handed out to parents during orientation and the screening process will be thoroughly explained.

 

 

This course is for teens 15 years old or older and adults who have a current Vermont learner's permit and want to obtain a Vermont driver's license. This course meets all state requirements, and places emphasis on situational awareness, zone control and vehicle safety.  ​

The academic component includes 15 or 16 classroom lessons, each lesson being 2 hours long.  Students are required to pass all academic exams with a score of 80% or higher and participate in all classroom discussions and all in vehicle driving conversation.

The driving component typically includes 6-7 behind-the-wheel lessons.  Each behind-the-wheel lesson usually includes the student receiving 60 minutes of instruction and 60 minutes of observing another student.  10 hours of outside practice is required on the log sheet to complete this course.

 

​To complete this course students must :

Attend 30 hours of classroom instruction,

6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction,   

6 hours of observing behind-the-wheel instruction,

Maintain a score of 80%.

Comply with the impairing substance policy.

Attend all classes

There is no guarantee you will pass either this course or the State of Vermont Driver’s License exam.  Successful students will be issued a state certificate stating they have completed a basic driver education course approved by the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles.  

During orientation the drive schedule will be established.   The driving schedule is based on the order registration deposits are received.  The impaired substance screening policy, the attendance policy, and the refund policy will be fully explained at orientation, one parent or guardian is required to attend orientation.
